Janel
KOMADA Makiko recently sent a new brochure and price list offering a wider variety of KIRIBAKO (paulownia boxes). I will present some of the information below and offer contact information for you to communicate with her. She has a PDF prepared with complete information and more photographs regarding the briefly described items below: Koryuen is pleased to offer standard kiribako (paulownia boxes) used in Japan for presentation and storage of netsuke and other works of arts, crafts, and antiques. The production of the boxes are supervised by the netsuke artist Ryushi Komada, and manufactured by Kido Woodwork Studio, Japan Reasonably priced, these high-quality boxes can be ordered conveniently in small or large quantities. Koryuen's Kiribako Paulownia Boxes Top row, from left : former "standard" size -- former "1.5 length" size Internal dimensions: L x W x D cm: 6 x 4.5 x 3.8 -- 9 x 4.5 x 3.8 Ojime box -- Standard netsuke box -- 1.5 length netsuke box -- Double netsuke box -- Sashi-netsuke box (16cm) -- Sashi-netsuke box (17cm) -- Pipecase box 5.5 x 5.5 x 3 -- 6 x 5.5 x 3.8 -- 9 x 5.5 x 3.8 -- 12 x 5.5 x 3.8 -- 16 x 5.5 x 3 -- 17 x 5.5 x 3 -- 25 x 5.5 x 3 The prices in yen range from 800 to 3250 yen in March of 2011. Accurate pricing will be provided when the order is discussed and placed. Boxes of conventional sizes can be slightly too tight for larger netsuke, creating a danger of damage to your valuable art work. Koryuen therefore offers netsuke boxes that are 1cm wider than the conventional boxes. Internal dimensions are important when ordering a box. When you choose box type, please make sure that the size is large enough for the work, wrapping, and padding (please read "Advice on padding" below for more information). Custom sized boxes may be ordered, and a variation of lid design is also offered. Ukon-nuno wrapping cloth In Japan, ukon-nuno (lit. turmeric cloth) has traditionally been used to wrap antique crafts since turmeric is considered to avoid worms and insects. Koryuen offers soft ukon-nuno in 100% cotton dyed with ukon (turmeric), yellow ocher in color, with pinked edging (i.e., zigzag edges). Sizes and their prices are as follows: 20 x 20 cm @ 70 yen (suitable for ojime and small netsuke) 25 x 25 cm @ 90 yen (suitable for netsuke) 30 x 30 cm @ 130 yen (suitable for large netsuke) 35 x 35 cm @ 200 yen (suitable for large netsuke) The prices include tax and handling fee. (March 2011) Tsuba Boxes are also available. anne_brewer
Janel, I was so glad to see your post on kiribako with a resource listed. However, I've tried the website above and it no longer exists. Do you have a current website for this resource or another resource from which I may order kiribako for my work? Thank you, Janel. Janel
Hi Anne, The link worked for me when I clicked it. Hmmm, I wonder what the problem is. Try a search on the internet for both of these words in the same search: Koryuen netsuke . You should see the listing for the web site. The name of the web site is Koryuen. Here is the url directly from the site: http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~komada/ copy and paste it into your browser address line. I hope that it works for you. anne_brewer
Janel, It worked! Not sure what I did wrong last time. Safari has been acting up since the last MAC OS update. Then again, it was probably operator error. Thank you! Anne
