Josh Murray
I got some very hard and beautiful freshly cut oak, used the paste wax on it but still seems to be drying too fast. I'm in a fairly humid climate and was wondering if anyone had any other tricks for slowing down the drying process. The pieces are anywhere from 6 inches in diameter to 2 feet. Mark Strom
Paste wax will not do anything to seal the wood. Best and most important thing is to seal the ends of the piece with a wax such as paraffin. If that is not possible then seal the ends with multiple coats of shellac or latex paint as this is where most of the moisture loss starts. Of course put stickers or strips of wood between the boards spacing them evenly along the length and in a line vertically to prevent warping. Also cover the stack with plastic leaving the ends open. This will slow the drying but not keep enough moisture to promote fungi or mold growth. Of course keeping sunlight off of it goes without saying and keep it out of the wind outside also. Hope this helps. Mark
Josh Murray
Thanks much Mark, I will do that. I have a bunch of paraffin and plastic. Much appreciated. Josh
