Billy
I'd like to suggest to the bone carvers out there, especailly the ones who are fans of Maori art, Brian Flintoff's new book, Kura Koiwi, Bone Treasures. It's a wonderful insight into the thinking that often goes into Maori carving. It doesn't touch on techniques like Stephen Myhre's book, but is more about the korero, or stories behind the different styles of carving. Brian is a highly regarded bone carver in NZ, and is one of the pioneers of modern bone carving and Maori instruments. He is also a wonderful man, and even though he is a Pakeha (a decendant of early European settlers), he is a treasure umong Maori, and all New Zealanders. Mauriora, Billy. Billy
Hey Tony. I often think that books will never replace experience as a teacher. And as for bone carving, there is limited resources on techniques as far as I know. In fact Stephens book is really the front runner worldwide. If you were looking for techniques based carving books, you would be better off looking at nesuke books. There is an online tutorial (ebook) one of the TCP members did. It's posted on here somewhere. That might help you with more techniques. If you do choose to try expanding your techniques and skills, make sure you're willing to put down that Dremel Billy
