michael B
A new toy for my carving and free form shapes, will save heaps of grinding and material loss in my stone, was very hesitant at first about bandsaws, but this little tool is awesome, I have some heavy duty sintered blades for my nephrite jade, great also for opal, minimal material loss. michael B
Thanks for your reply Tony, great to get feedback on others experiences, hope to give this saw a good test on nephrite jade this weekend, the blade length is 37 in, also looking at a ring saw in the same brand, has a separating blade for internal cuts, no lead in cut, would like a demo before a purchase, not sure how durable the blade would be, cuts in any direction, round blade, I think nephrite jade would be hell on it. any one here have a ring saw, a link. http://www.gryphoncorp.com/index.php?p=ringsaw
SileIndigo
How long do the blades last when you're cutting harder stone, like jade? Does it have a coolent system built in? Is there a limit to how thick of slabs you can cut on it? I'm really tempted to get one of these, because the designs I'm wanting to carve in stone would be SO much easier to cut out with a band saw, instead something like a trim saw. michael B
I researched bandsaws before my purchase, chatting to lapidary users of many brands, the standard blade is said to last 12 months if used several times a week, have not had a chance to do any in the last few days, the water system is very simple, works good, like a normal saw, blade passes through water in base, no pump, my first impressions are good, it easily cut the heart, I have courser heavy duty blades for hard stone called fusers, will post the results on jade and agate when I try, it easily cuts a 3/16 radius. michael B
Tried some chrysoprase on my diamond band saw today, pleasing results, the crystally rhodonite is awesome for dressing the blade, cuts curves awesome, having a little trouble with straight cuts.
