Dan
ok so i needed a carvng vise so after a bit of soul searching i found out my soul is cheap. so instead of paying 70-100 dollers for a vise to carve with i instead did some research and talked to a few people and came up with the perfect vise for my stingy soul. here is a carving vise made out of scrap and pipe fitings for 10-15 dollers. ta da! http://i1101.photobu...zps4cdd2591.jpg mounted it to a bench hook and with some bench hold downs or if im on the road some clamps its plenty secure. http://i1101.photobu...zps54ecca25.jpg the pipe niple arm is held in place with a sold eye bolt Warning do not get a open eye bolt the force is enought to straiten the bolt. guess how i found this little tid bit out. so it went together well enough but i had one small problem i could not get it tight enough to keep it from spining so i filled down some groves in the pipe end that the vises arm can rest in and then it wont move on me. http://i1101.photobu...zpscd103d0e.jpg finaly the knob came from my budy chris who donated it to the charity that is me

Dan
neat and cheap serously i built the whole thing out of junk around the shop. but you can build it right now in about 20 min. like i said 10$ plus the knob which was the most expensive but it also saved me from hand tightening a nut every time. now that was a pain. i can carve in any direction at any angle its just as good as the ones you buy for big dollers. Dan
oh that if i know what your saying its to the left of my vise. you can just see the end cap sticking just over the edge of the table top. its a dowl rod in my wood vise on my work bench just have rubber table leg caps on it to keep it on there. fast easy and makes sense. im about to take some photos of my shop to show off now that im geting somewhere where i can be a wood worker for real in my home.
