It Is That Time Of Year: Smithsonian Craft Show And Minnesota Potters' Tour Ahead

The days are flying by with lots to do before departure. I will be showing my work at the Smithsonian Craft Show next week. And upon my return I will dive head long into the final preparations for the 21st Annual Minnesota Potters of the upper St. Croix River Studio Tour & Sale on the second weekend of May. This year there are 50 potters spread amongst 7 host studios. It is great fun and always has a big turn out of people who enjoy pottery. I will have my carved work displayed, and I have been making some pots for it as well. Life is never boring here! I am looking forward to the middle of May when I will be able to return to the carving bench and contemplative work.

I'll look forward to looking in on the forum but will likely not participate much for a few weeks.

PS We still have snow on the ground here, with more predicted for tomorrow! Such a different spring scenario here this year!

Whew! The two shows are now behind me, and I am exhausted. There is a lot of clean up and wrapping up of the Potters' Tour event before I can find my carving bench.

Thank you all for keeping on with your activities without my participation. I did keep an eye on the forum and did the behind the scenes admin work as needed. As I am able, I hope to participate more here again.

Now, on with the day!

It is that time again! I am heading to Washington, DC tomorrow, a couple of days early to try to get ahead of bad driving weather. The alternative is to not have a safe margin of a few hours before my unloading time next Monday.

I will be presenting my work for sale at the Smithsonian Craft Show next Wednesday evening through Sunday.

I am settling in after the two weeks away for the Smithsonian Craft show, which went well. The last few hours of the two and a half day drive were harrowing, but I was determined to get home. A very peculiar winter storm with a very clear rain/snow line was in progress in the last 50+ miles of the journey. Within half a mile the heavy rain became heavy snow. What would normally be less than an hour's drive became a 30 miles per hour focused driving control event. Ruts in the snow on the interstate were shallow. On the county road they were inches deep, and on the township road, no plowing, just deep ruts rubbing the bottom of the automobile. Snow measured at 19 inches at our home the next morning. I am really glad to be home.

Now the focus is on all of the preparation for the 22nd Annual Saint Croix Valley Pottery Studio Tour and Sale. Carving resumes when ever it is possible to fit it in.
