Dan
I do a lot of inlay work using stone chips for decoration. the problem is a go through a lot of sandpaper and belts/ disc for my sanders. is there a better tool that would allow me grind down the stone without it wearing out but still grinding down any stone. maybe some kind of diamond sanding/grinding disc. Lachlan
Diamond files, silicon carbide blocks, diamond wheels for a grinder?
Dan
I find diamond files too slow rather not use hand tools if I can help it. silicon carvide blocks that is usualy used to flatten sharpening stone right? how hard are those? are they durable? and do they make a diamond wheel for angle grinders that is one solid disc? only seen the ones with diamond covered ridge. the rdgesi would catch on the stones and rip that out of the depressions there glued too. Lachlan
Yeah sharpening stones are silicon carbide too. This is what I meant by a diamond grinding wheel http://jadecarver.com/Wheel6x15sm.jpg If you have trouble with them ripping stones out the use a finer grit. Dan
hmmm that mounts in a bench grinder type thing correct? i like the solid diamond grit it would work great for taking down the stone inlay. do those wear out? alot of my projects are in stuff you cant pick up like a table top. so it would be better to have something that i can mound in a angle grinder or a sander. something more portable. Lachlan
Diamond sandpaper on a belt or finishing sander? Angle grinder with diamond bits? Foredom sells small ones of both for use with the flex shaft.
Jesse
For polishing sizes like a table top try the marble polishing kit I use. bought it at ebay cheep, here might be worth a quick look. Kit of 14 disk / grit sizes Diamond Polishing Pads 3 inch Wet Dry 14 Piece Set Granite Marble Concrete Stone | eBay seems a deal at 20 odd clams, w/free shipping. Sorry, I dont know any of the companies lately, bought mine 8 yrs. ago. Harbor freight has mini 1" to 2" diamond wheels for 1/8" shaft to knock down protruding stones before sanding, again cheep. Colin
Hi Dan, Have you tried tile cutter blades. These are diamond grit -you can get slotted or solid blades + ones to use with or without water. I use them one a 4" grinder for roughing out my stones-select the correct insert- and they last quite well. Cheap and redily available in hardware stores..Cheers Colin
