Tom Edward
Hey Everyone, well I have a very basic question, prior to doing a carving, how far do you ( each carver here ) take the surface preparation of any material, if the surface needs to be prepared do you sand the surface to what grade of paper, 220-350 600 or higher. I have been sanding the obvious scratches out of a tagua nut using 600 grit, so the question is obvious. How does each carver prepare their carving surface prior to design? Ed Twilbeck
Tom ,,, I carve wood mostly,, and about all I do before laying out carving out a design ,,is to remove any saw marks, and some sanding to see the grain and color of what I am going to carve. I had a Tagua nut to carve a few years back, and what I did was to use some white polishing compound with a chamois wheel. This will give a smooth, clean ,,and shine your surface.
