robert weinstock
Hi all, I suppose I should have done this already, but here it is. My name is Bob Weinstock, and I'm a knifemaker. My dad was an architect, so I was exposed to creativity at an early age, and was encouraged to pursue an artistic career. I studied art in college (sculpture and ceramics). I worked as a die maker in a jewelery factory for 17 years, and learned to carve steel dies, as well as work as a bench jeweler. We made a great many of our own tools, and I learned to work at a very high level. I was always encouraged to work on a project until it was as good as I could make it. It had to be right when I was done with my part of the project, or it would come back to haunt me later. I've been making knives for ten years now, and am beginning to feel like I can actually make something.I approach knives as sculptural exercises that just happen to be knives. I know that's not exectly the usual approach of most knofemakers, but it works for me. Thanks to all of you who made this forum possible.
