Ed Twilbeck
I have this for over a year, look at it looking for some idea , looking for the wood to show me, what to carve. The out sides are very busy with lots of openings, twisting grain .etc . I am hoping someone will see something that I didn't. I'm almost ready to cut the outside to flat so I can do some carving. I hate to cut away such interesting grain, but I can't seem to find something to work with. Any and all ideas ,suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Heidi L
Top photo - I see animal heads in the wind, going from right to left. Far right I see an equine like shape of a head, and then a lion of sorts a little farther over. Tried to outline but it did not turn out well. Heidi L
You're welcome Ed! And sometimes things show up differently in photos compared to real life, so these things may not even show up at all but I'd be curious to find out what you see after looking. Kindest, Heidi
Ed Twilbeck
I decided what to do with the root. The cicada and the root came from the same Boxwood bush, so I will put them together. What do you think.
B.K. Henderson-Winnie
I like the contrast between the gnarly, organic root as a display base and the smooth, finished boxwood cicada. That they are the same kind of material from the same bush is a nice touch. Is the cicada a netsuke?
Ed Twilbeck
No it is a small carving about 2 1/2 inches long.
